I miss my grandmother more than words can express. She embodied a soft voice, an indomitable spirit, and led with quiet confidence. Grandma and Steve Myrick were the first to believe in my dreams. After a couple of years running my one-man show, Grandma co-signed for my first reliable company truck, despite everyone else’s warnings.
As my earnings grew, it became my joy to honor her investment by tucking surprise money around her little mobile home for her to find whenever I could. It became a cherished game between us 🙂 She honored me before I was worthy of any, and honoring her in return was such a joy. She was a 4’11” ray of sunshine, radiating love, joy, and a calm peace that enveloped our entire family instantly.
It’s incredible how someone so gentle could stand so strong. She and my 6’0″ grandfather, a Pearl Harbor survivor, anchored our family for decades. I learned everything I needed to know from them, not through lectures, but by witnessing their effortless partnership: unwavering faith, steadfast resilience, and a love that simply radiated. I wanted to share a handful of quick principles that I learned from them over the years, that I believe could impact you, your family, and your business in a meaningful way.
Practical Steps for Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, Isolation, Insecurities, and Cultivating a Growth Mindset:
- Recognize Your Worth: Reflect on your journey and acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small. Understand that everyone starts somewhere, and your progress matters.
- Seek Mentorship: Just as Grandma and Mr. Myrick believed in Stephen, seek mentors who can offer guidance, support, and wisdom on your entrepreneurial path.
- Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you. Share your aspirations and challenges with trusted friends and family who will provide honest feedback and unwavering support.
- Embrace Vulnerability: It’s okay to show your imperfections. Vulnerability fosters genuine connections and allows others to see the real you beyond any facade.
- Challenge Negative Self-Talk: Combat self-doubt and impostor feelings by reframing negative thoughts into positive affirmations. Remind yourself of your strengths and capabilities.
- Celebrate Progress: Celebrate each milestone, no matter how small. Recognizing your achievements boosts confidence and motivation to continue pushing forward.
- Learn Continuously: Stay curious and open to learning. Seek knowledge and skills that will enhance your entrepreneurial journey and personal growth.
- Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself during setbacks or failures. Treat yourself with the same compassion and understanding you would offer a friend in similar circumstances.
- Set Clear Goals: Define and break your goals into actionable steps. Having a clear roadmap provides direction and motivation to achieve your aspirations.
- Stay Persistent: Entrepreneurship is a journey filled with challenges. Stay resilient and persevere through obstacles, knowing that every setback is an opportunity for growth.
The Trust Story Leads to Alignment in Life and Business:
Over the years, I have discovered that it is very easy to slip out of alignment with the various stressors of life. The missing alignment causes us to scale dysfunction in our lives and businesses. If I could offer any meaningful idea, it would be that alignment matters to live and prosper fully in every aspect of life. I have also discovered that most of us don’t know if we are in alignment, so my team and I created a five-minute short survey tool that can give you immediate feedback on how far you have come and what’s left to be done.
If you want additional insight on finding alignment between who you are privately and publicly and creating a character that can withstand misunderstandings, take The Alignment Survey Tool Now to discover precisely where you’re out of alignment and what to do next to get back on track. Or check out resources on inner alignment and truth. There, you’ll find practical steps for honest self-examination, healing past wounds, and building the kind of unshakeable character that doesn’t fear what others say… because your day-to-day life speaks louder.
