Destroy Negative Thoughts With These Steps

destroy negative thoughts, journey principles

Negativity almost destroyed me.

There’s a lot more to my story than being homeless. At one point, I was considering taking my own life. I had only known failure, struggle, and poverty. Why stick around? If it hadn’t been for Susan Batts, I would’ve listened to that voice, and I wouldn’t be writing this for you right now.

Destroy Negative Thoughts

While I was on the edge, Susan told me “This too shall pass, and what comes next will be greater. But she didn’t leave it there. She made me say those words out loud, plus a few others:

“This too shall pass, and what comes next will be greater for me.”

I need you to read that statement about out loud and anchor yourself there. What you’re going through right now isn’t your future. It’s your new beginning. I learned a long time ago that failure can be the foundation for a fresh start. That was 22 years ago. I never thought for the life of me I’d be building businesses, creating wealth, talking to you. And I didn’t go through all that to not share this next bit with you.

If you’re reading this, I don’t know anything about you except one thing: you deserve to win. You’re worth more than you think and capable of more than you think. I know this because I’ve been there, and if I can get out of the gutter and into success, so can you. However, in order to break the cycle, you need to break the negative thoughts. You need to destroy negative thoughts on purpose, as a habit.

If you want to get to the next level, you need to conquer negativity.

Our brains are a lot like record players. We choose which record gets played. It only took one voice for me to believe I could be more than I was.

Watch What You Say to Yourself

You reinforce your thinking with the words you say. Your words are like roots that grow into results. If you want to change the fruits of your life, you have to change the roots of your life. You can destroy negative thoughts by speaking better words over yourself.

Remind Yourself of your Wins

There was a time that just getting up was a win. And you know what? That was a win where I was at. Years later, it was getting $100 closer to being out of debt every month. A little longer after that, it was my company hitting $1 million in revenue per year. Today’s win may seem small. Who cares. It’s a win, and the more of those you focus on, the more of them you will get, and the bigger they will be.

Consider Supplements

When I was at my lowest, my serotonin levels were low. This was one of the reasons I was low. Part of the battle in destroying negative thoughts is chemical, and it’s good to keep this in mind. One of the things that I did was take a supplement called St. John’s Wort. Now, this is something that I did, and you should consult your doctor before adding a supplement to your diet. I’m telling you this piece, however, because I would encourage you to do just that. Ask your doctor if there are some supplements you could take to help your mood.

Exercise

When your brain is under stress and you are experiencing fear and anxiety, your cortisol level rises and muscle tissue declines. This gets you out of balance, and you need to be in balance. Exercise helps your cardiovascular system, which lowers your cortisol level by pumping more blood through your system so your brain can have a higher state of functioning. You’d be amazed how a workout can destroy negative thoughts by itself with nothing else added. Doing it regularly can bring lasting breakthrough. Seriously.

Rest

You need sleep to stay in balance. This can be a vicious cycle when you’re in a bad place mentally, as heightened anxiety can make it more difficult to sleep. If this is where you are right now, ask your doctor about taking a supplement like melatonin to help you. If you’re simply being negligent with your sleep or sacrificing sleep for something else, I’d encourage you to do everything you can to flip that dynamic.

Sleep is powerful for destroying negative thoughts. I haven’t grown out of needing regular, quality sleep to be at my best. Get in a regular rhythm, get a bed time, and get 6-8 hours every night.
